Team USA Wins Gold at 2016 World University Championships

Skiers from nineteen countries gathered in Akita, Japan from September 8 through September 11, 2016. Skiers come from many nations, but several of the skiers ski within the NCWSA and we are proud of all of them for competing at the World University Championships.

After three days of skiing, Team USA earned the top spot of the team leaderboard, earning the team gold medal. Along the way the five of the six skiers from Team USA earned individual podium placements and individual medals. Additionally, Team USA skiers Dane Mechler and Brittany Greenwood ski for the current NCWSA champions, the Ragin’ Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, this fall they will be going for a repeat national championship and attempting a rare collegiate water ski feat of earning two national championships and a world team gold medal in just over a twelve month span. After the USA in the team competition, the Czech Republic narrowly beat out France for the silver medal, leaving France to round out the podium with the bronze.

Over the past few days we have written several individual event articles, you can read more about the individual event winners as well as which NCWSA schools these skiers ski for within the individual event articles: Men’s Slalom, Women’s Trick, Men’s Trick, Women’s Jump
