Skier Showcase: Great Plains Conference Executive Board – Meet the Prez

catherineMeet Catherine Bartzen (a.k.a Catheter), the newly elected chair person of the Great Plains Conference in the Midwest Region. Catherine is originally from Madison, Wisconsin, but found her way to the Golden Eagles of Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI! She is currently studying Elementary Education and Political Science in the hopes of one day becoming a 1st Grade teacher. However, her teaching days already begun. During her sophomore year, Catherine spent a semester teaching and studying in South Africa! When she isn’t being amazing at teaching, you can find Catherine reading mystery novels, pursuing her love for acting (she’s been in several plays and musicals), and, of course, spending time at the lake!

Catherine’s introduction to skiing is quite similar to many collegiate skiers throughout the Midwest. She first learned how to ski during a summer in Minocqua, WI, but before joining Marquette’s team she didn’t have much experience. Don’t worry, Catherine… you are not alone! Although Catherine did not want to disclose her 3-event personal bests, she is confident about one thing in regards to collegiate skiing: “My team is like my 2nd family–I couldn’t live without them!” For any new skiers looking to get into the sport she recommends joining “with an open mind, and you’ll never look back!”

Needless to say, Catherine Bartzen can teach us a thing or two about how to be amazing both on and off the water. Get some solid rest this winter and we will see you out on the water next season!
