Lake Freddie by Nebraska at MO State Fall 2016

One Weekend in the Mirror & One Weekend in the Future: 9/17/2016 – 9/18/2016

A look back

That was one crazy weekend; if you blinked for a really really long time, you may have missed it! This past weekend Midwest and the South Central kicked off their Fall 2016 seasons and on the other side of the globe many NCWSA skiers including those on Team USA were representing their home nations at the World University Water Ski Championship in Akita, Japan. First, let’s cover what happened on the other side of the globe; Team USA set out to defend its team gold medal and did so successfully while the individuals on the team picked up several medals of their own. Check out our breakdown on Team USA winning gold from earlier in the week! After the USA, the Czech Republic took the silver and France the bronze.

Texas A&M at UT Fall Classic 2016We may reminisce about World’s again at a later date, but for now lets get to the tournaments that were spread across the central part of our great nation. The Midwest region had four tournaments this past weekend and the South Central hosted its first of the fall. The University of Texas hosted the tournament in the South Central and the results have yet to be posted, and with several talented skiers globe trotting to represent their countries it is hard for us to even guess at a winner. It looks like everyone had fun though, check out the pic to the left showing off the Texas A&M Water Ski Team at the tournament, you can follow them on Instagram.

Over in the Midwest region four tournaments were hosted by the University of Iowa, Missouri State University, Michigan State University, and all of Ohio apparently. The results have yet to be posted for the Hawkeye Skifest in Iowa, but based on some social media rumblings it was a battle between two Wisconsin schools, La Crosse and Madison. (Update: The results are in, Wisconsin La Crosse beat out Madison for the top spot). In Michigan, at MSU Ripfest, Michigan State University pulled out a win over the University of Michigan and Grand Valley State University, Western Michigan University, and Saginaw Valley State University rounded out the top five team placements. Check out how happy MSU looks to the right and follow them on Instagram. Heading south to Ohio, the Southern Ohio Challenge had eight teams competing for the top spot and The Ohio State University took home the crown! After OSU, Miami University of Ohio narrowly beat out University of Cincinnati for second and Bowling Green State University and Purdue University finished in fourth and fifth respectively. Lastly, but certainly not least, the MO State Fall Showdown took place on Lake Freddie in Hartville, Missouri. With seven teams competing, Kansas University took home the top spot. Following Kansas in the top five were Missouri State University, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, and Kansas State University. Nebraska took the beautiful picture up top, follow them on Instagram.

Congrats to all the teams and skiers that took podium spots, and as always you can find all the scores for these tournaments and past tournaments on USA Water Ski. Now…

A look ahead
