WCWSA Midwinter Captains Meeting Agenda Imperial Palace Hotel Conference Room, Las Vegas, February 7, 2009, 8:30am
i. 07 boats with GPS are still usable in 09 tournaments ii. if there is not a boat available you can use a 06 if you get approval from Barry Young Western EVP iii. Rule change if a skier isn’t reading on the dock b/c of a ripped binding or equipment problem you now have 3 minutes as decided by the dock officials iv. Boat timing for jump, we now have to report all three timing segments v. If skier has a delay (10 min) after first pass due to uncontrollable circumstances (weather, boat, etc.) skier can take a protective pass or start over without a protected score. vi. Trick course changes vii. Jeff passed around rule amendments viii. AWSA regionals is in CO this year, entry fees are higher unless you use online registration, schedule changed
i. Had a bunch of seniors graduate but have new and transfers, really poor and boat is slowly dying, have about 20 skiers
i. Have about 11 skiers, school gave them more money, their boats dying too, looking to higher a paid coach
i. Have about 14 people hoping to get them out to tournaments, members seem enthusiastic, club sport office is giving them issues especially with traveling
i. Grew a lot and have a bunch of talent freshman, their boat is also dying, regionals was a huge success for them, there club sports office is very happy, Elisha has done a ton of work, looking for jump skis
i. Jeff has had some contact and they have less than 10 skiers they are trying to get things going, they want to keep going
i. Boats good, lakes good, team getting smaller
i. Ton of graduating seniors, they have one to many boats, have about 15 dedicated people but need girls desperately, 09 will be a rebuilding year
i. Have about 25 active members, a ton of new people, old people have left, they’ll be at all the tournaments
i. Lost about half the team at about 18 people, should be at every tournament, biggest issue is school, they sold the old boat but the school won’t give them the money, they would like to see more people go to downhill water skiing next year, next year they will try to call everyone versus email, possibly try to hold it a week earlier, They did a lot of fundraising and did a newsletter to alumni, family and friends and got a money, they also did a letter drive, also did a banquet and auction
i. 7 to 10 members, they lost a lot to graduation, finances are good, lost money because they didn’t go to Nationals, boats good
i. Have about 25 people active, plan at being at al the tournaments, currently looking for a new coach, BK might take over, they need a new boat, finances are good
i. Not just Brian, lots of interest and he thinks the new speed will help a lot, as a new team they could use new equipment, sharing or passing down
i. At 20 people and should be increasing, UNR is taking a 40% budget cut so they have no equipment, no boat and no water, but they have people
i. Please send fundraising ideas to UW, they have a couple of skiers, they are trying to build, thanks to WWU for helping them ii. Brian Morris is at Iowa, he’s out of eligibility but wants to help start a team
i. Have about 20 skiers, a lot who haven’t skied, they didn’t have a boat in the fall, it was rough, weather is bad too, its been hard on skiing, they hope to make it to more tournaments, this year there we need to be much better at Glass cutters
*** send fundraising ideas to AW and she’ll put them all together and put them up on the website *** Message boards on NCWSA, we should utilize it *** Try to keep participation in tournaments up and support other teams.
i. Long beach has a old WWU skier their but is super busy ii. Pomona and Irvine has interested skiers iii. Brian D’s brother is going to USC, if he interested we’ll help
i. Central WA has talked to WWU they might be at Glass cutters, get us contact info ii. Trying to help St. Mary’s and Reno as much as he could iii. Mentioned boats are going to be hard for tournaments this year, plan in advanced
i. NCWSA is going again this year and will pass on leads to conference chairs to follow up on
i. Membership committee: Lashley nominates Darrin, second, Luke, all in favor and Colin and Lashley, both on the committee and Matt ii. Operations: Luke, Darrin, Brian D, All on committees iii. Awards: Elisha on committee iv. Marketing: Jeff, Brian D, Sprinkles, v. AAC: Brian D, Luke, Karl (nominated was Karl, Kevin, Matt, Luke and Brian)
i. Get a regional committee together, Chris can chair, Luke, Brian, Sprinkles help him, Jeff’s dad’s company can help with getting videos together, chairman will help more this year. Amanda will help with sponsorships
i. Set aside 250 for marketing 1. Motion matt ,second Darrin, all in favor ii. Set aside 150 for AWSA meeting 1. Motion Brian, second Darrin, all in favor iii. One of the boats from Regionals and Nationals was damaged and UCLA and ASU had to pay. Suggest taking pictures of boats before hand. iv. Amanda motion for WCWSA to pay $500 and the participating regional and nationals to split the remaining $500, second Greg, All in favor
i. Aquatic center is doing clinics April 24 and 25 ii. AWSAwest.net has all the official, junior development information iii. Conduct, no alcohol at all even for friends and family

i. Regional Development- Marketing committee getting information to Jr dev camps and clinics this year and get the camp and clinic dates to our group if people want to volunteer ii. Collegiate development: Do weekends at lakes to get teams more time on water iii. B skiing: can we get it going better, tournaments should try to plan for it and if its not going to happen let captains know iv. Online trained drivers v. St Mary’s and Reno comment: equipment is needed, let Davis know so that they can get a equipment list going for spring opener
