Selection Procedures

FISU University World Championships

A. Team Description:

A six member team will be selected to compete at the 2012 University World Championship January 9-15, 2012, in Santiago, Chile.

B. Eligibility:

1. Eligibility for selection to the US team shall be:

a. U.S. citizen.

b. Member of the NCWSA Division of USA Water Ski in good standing born between 1/1/84 and 12/31/94.

c. Eligible member of a NCWSA team during the 2010-2011 NCWSA Ski Year (must show proof) or former NCWSA team member who either graduated or completed his/her NCWSA eligibility in 2011.

d. An incoming freshman for the Fall 2011 semester will also be eligible provided they are an NCWSA sport division member and have joined their University's water ski team or initiated the process to form a team on their campus.

Selection procedures

1. The team will be selected utilizing the selection criteria outlined below, based on your Class "E, L or R" tournaments starting with 2010 AWSA Nationals through August 28, 2011.

2.Gender distribution shall be 4/2 or 3/3.

3.Team selection scores in each event shall be the sum of 50% of the top score and 50% of the average of the top 3 scores calculated from all rounds of scores in class "E L or R" events in all tournaments, during the period stated in section 1 above.

4. Scoring shall be based on the 1,000-point system where, for each round, 1,000 points will be the highest base score of the skiers in each event. Base scores will stay the same throughout the tournament and will be determined by taking the average of the top two scores from any Class "E, L, or R" event during the time period specified in section 1 above.

Men's Tricks: (Skier's score x 1000) / (base score of top seed)

Women's Tricks: (Skier's score x 1000) / (base score of top seed)

Men's Slalom: (Skier's score x 1000) / (base score of top seed)

Women's Slalom: (Skier's score x 1000) / (base score of top seed)

Men's Jump: (Skier's score x 1000) / (base score of top seed)

Women's Jump: (Skier's score 1000) / (base score of top seed)

5. The top man and woman skiers based on "overall score" will be selected first. "Overall score" is computed as the sum of all three "event scores".

6. The next skier will be the man or women with the next highest "overall score"

7. The 4th, 5th, and 6th skiers will be selected on the basis of "two event scores", provided that there be no more than four skiers of any one sex. "Two event scores" is defined as the sum of the two highest "event scores" for a skier

8. The skier with the highest "event score" in a single event, not already on the team, will be substituted for the 6th position (or 5th if substitution for the 6th would result in more than four skiers of one sex) provided that such a substitution would increase the team score as described in the selection procedures.

9. The selection committee shall designate up to 4 alternates to the US team. The method of selecting these alternates will be at the discretion of the selection committee and not based on any fixed formula. Selected alternates will be given the opportunity of traveling with the team. However, it must be at their own expense unless they are called upon to compete, in which case they will be reimbursed for expenses beginning at the time they are officially called up.

10. Disclaimer: In the event of unforeseen circumstances which, in the opinion of the selection committee, render these procedures clearly ineffective, the committee may amend these procedures as necessary to accomplish the goals of NCWSA with 2/3rds affirmative vote of the full committee.

11. The US team selection for 2012 University Worlds and the alternates shall be designated as "Team University USA" This shall be the US University Team until the next team trials.
