NCWSA Call for Volunteers 2020

Call for NCWSA Volunteers

Committee Representative

The NCWSA has five active committees containing a chair, AAC rep, and four regoinal representtives. Additionally, the Athlete’s Advisory Council (AAC) is filled with athlete reps that meet defined performance requirements.

If you wish to be a representative on one of these committees or help out an already appointed regional representative, please reach out to your regional chair.

  • Midwest – Christy Kingsmill
  • SAC – Matt Page
  • SCR – Jackson Driggs
  • West – Jeff Rush

Awards Committee

This committee makes sure proper awards are prepared and ready to be distributed at the time or event associated with each individual award or award grouping. Additionally, the awards committee may present changes to the Board in terms of awards presentation, actual award design, and pitch additional awards possibilities.

The NCWSA Awards Committee currently governs the following awards:

  • Annual Awards: Male & Female Athlete of the Year, Male & Female Outstanding Leader of the Year, and NCWSA Team of the Year
  • NCWSA Nationals Awards: Bill Stevenson Outstanding Driver Award, Phil Chase Outstanding Official or Volunteer Award, NCWSA All American Team, and the NCWSA Nationals Spirit Award
  • Academic All-Star Team
  • NCWSA Hall of Fame

International Activities Committee

This committee is responsible for creating the criteria for and selection of the Team USA members that attend and compete in the FISU World University Championships.

Operations Committee

This committee is responsible for maintaining and amending the NCWSA governance documents. This includes proposing new rules or alterations to current rules for the betterment of the NCWSA and the goal of providing fair competition for all athletes entered in an NCWSA sanctioned competition.

Marketing Committee

This committee helps secure annual promotions and sponsorships for the NCWSA while also working with NCWSA All-Stars and Nationals tournament hosts to secure event based sponsorship opportunities.

Additionally, the committee looks to promote collegiate water skiing at many possible venues including online through ncwsa.com and across social media. Promotional tasks may include coordinating video contests with USA Water Ski & Wake Sports or sponsors, advertising collegiate skiing at the events of another USA-WSWS subdivision such as AWSA Nationals, creating guides for teams to grow and manage their social media.

Membership Committee

For the past several years the membership committee was combined with the marketing committee. However, as the NCWSA looks toward a period of growth the M&M committee was split back into two separate committees.

This committee is responsible for the growth of the NCWSA. While maintaining skier growth on individual teams is important, growing the NCWSA as a whole is one of the primary goals of this committee. This includes helping fledgling teams, helping struggling teams, and looking to start new teams.

Athlete’s Advisory Council

This committee shall consist of two members from each region. The minimum criteria for AAC consideration is a skier who finished in the top half of the NCWSA Nationals D1 or All Stars, or recorded a comparable score in the Nationals D2, or been a member of a World University Team.

The AAC is the athlete’s voice. In addition to sitting on the AAC, the chairs will request volunteers from within the AAC to sit on each of the other NCWSA committees. Those representatives for the other NCWSA committees may then bring ideas back to the AAC to help discuss the athlete’s perspective, and also help with any needed advertisements of events or participation. The AAC should also help inform skiers about competing at NCWSA All-Stars and at Team Trials as well as help promote skier participation in all aspects of the NCWSA.

Similar to Operations, the AAC will discuss and vote on many potential rule changes after the Fall season in order to decide on bringing issues to the NCWSA Board.

NCWSA Committee Chair

The NCWSA will be performing our yearly call for committee chairs starting on March 1, 2020. Committee chairs (except AAC co-chairs) are appointed to one year terms by the NCWSA Chair. All current chairs must also apply during the open call to be considered for re-appointment.

NCWSA.com Staff or Writer

The NCWSA website is always looking for volunteers to help create and curate collegiate water skiing content. We have several ways to join the ncwsa.com/staff and various methods of contribution.

Region Level Volunteer

Many regions are always looking for additional volunteers to coordinate events, ongoing projects, help expand activities, or write recaps of tournaments or activities to help advertise the region and its teams. These things help contribute to consistent regional growth. In addition to the aforementioned ideas regions may be looking for additional volunteers to help coordinate fundraising or alumni events.

Contact us today to volunteer!

If you do not know where to start or what your skill set would best fit, please contact us at info@ncwsa.com and we can help! Additionally, if you wish to volunteer at the regional level and just do not know how to contact your regions leadership (you moved after skiing or need an introduction), shoot us an email and we will help start the conversation.
